Weighted wearable for everyday use

Hoyo is a weighted wearable designed to soothe the sympathetic nervous system through the use to deep pressure touch stimulation. In other words, this wearable acts as a hug when you’re stressed.

This product was part of an exploration of creating therapeutic objects to potentially help in clinical settings. The result is a product that could help a wide array of people, in a wide array of environments.

Special safety precaution has been taken with the amount of weight used and in the closure chosen. The cape form makes it easy to put on and take off in case the wearer becomes overwhelmed by the weight and the tie closure is optional but can help compress the sternum, adding more pressure and aiding in deep pressure touch stimulation

Why Weight?

63% of people reported feeling less anxiety after deep pressure touch stimulation in a clinical study

Mood Board

Researched various techniques in quilting and styles of jackets. I ended up not including sleeves so for easier removal.

Exploration

Took apart a weighted blanket and quilted jacket to see standard construction of each. Both experiences were used to plan the construction of the product. The exploration phase also included testing various individuals with how much weight felt comfortable to them with weights ranging from 5 to 20lbs. The final product is 7.5lbs
